Women living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may experience symptoms that affect nearly every part of daily life. Intrusive memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, avoidance, emotional numbness, difficulty sleeping, and feeling constantly alert to danger can make it difficult to feel safe even when the traumatic experience is over.
PTSD develops following exposure to trauma, but experiencing trauma does not automatically mean that a woman has PTSD. A PTSD diagnosis involves a specific pattern of symptoms that persist and interfere with daily functioning. This distinction is important because effective treatment begins with understanding what a woman is actually experiencing rather than assuming that every response to trauma is PTSD.
At Kinder in the Keys, our women’s residential PTSD treatment program provides a structured and supportive environment where women can address PTSD symptoms while developing the skills needed to regain stability, confidence, and a greater sense of control over their lives.
Treatment is individualized and may include:
Recovery from PTSD is not about erasing what happened. Treatment helps women understand their responses, process traumatic experiences safely, reduce the power those experiences continue to hold, and build healthier ways of responding to thoughts, emotions, relationships, and triggers.
PTSD symptoms can begin soon after a traumatic experience, although for some women, the full pattern of symptoms may not become apparent until later. Symptoms vary in severity and can affect emotional health, relationships, sleep, concentration, work, and a woman’s ability to feel safe in everyday life.
The National Center for PTSD identifies these four symptom categories as key features of PTSD.
At Kinder in the Keys, residential PTSD treatment gives women the time, structure, and therapeutic support to address these symptoms in a safe and supportive environment. Treatment is individualized because PTSD does not affect every woman in the same way.
Our approach may incorporate individual and group therapy, cognitive behavioral approaches, trauma-focused interventions, dialectical behavior therapy skills, stress-management strategies, and mind-body practices. When clinically appropriate, psychiatric evaluation and medication management may also be incorporated into a woman’s treatment plan.
The goal is not simply to manage symptoms. Treatment helps women understand how traumatic experiences continue to influence their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and physical responses so they can develop healthier patterns and move forward with greater confidence and control.
At Kinder in the Keys, we offer evidence-based and trauma-informed therapies for women living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Each woman receives an individualized treatment plan based on her symptoms, history, clinical needs, and treatment goals.
Therapeutic approaches used in our residential PTSD treatment program may include:
EMDR is a structured psychotherapy used to help individuals process distressing memories associated with traumatic experiences. When clinically indicated, EMDR may be incorporated into a woman’s individualized treatment plan to help reduce distress associated with traumatic memories and PTSD symptoms.
Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral approaches can help women identify and challenge thoughts and beliefs that developed in response to traumatic experiences. Treatment can help women better understand connections among thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and PTSD symptoms while developing healthier ways of responding to trauma-related distress.
At Kinder in the Keys, treatment is individualized based on each woman’s clinical needs, trauma history, symptoms, and treatment goals. Therapeutic approaches may include:
Kinder in the Keys provides specialized PTSD treatment for adult women in the Florida Keys. Because PTSD can affect emotional regulation, relationships, physical well-being, and daily functioning, treatment is individualized to address each woman’s symptoms, experiences, needs, and recovery goals. We offer both residential treatment and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), allowing women to receive an appropriate level of structured support throughout treatment.
Kinder in the Keys provides residential mental health treatment for adult women who need a higher level of support than traditional outpatient care can provide. Our residential setting gives women the time, structure, and therapeutic support needed to focus fully on recovery away from the demands and stressors of everyday life.
For women with PTSD, residential treatment can provide a supportive environment for addressing trauma-related symptoms while building healthier coping skills and greater emotional stability. Treatment is individualized and may incorporate individual therapy, group therapy, trauma-focused interventions, wellness activities, and other therapeutic approaches based on each woman’s clinical needs.
Located in the Florida Keys, Kinder in the Keys provides residential treatment in peaceful, home-like residences designed specifically for adult women. Rather than a hospital-like setting, our residential environment allows women to live in a comfortable, supportive setting while participating in structured clinical treatment throughout their stay.
Kinder in the Keys also offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for women who need structured mental health treatment while developing greater independence in daily life. PHP provides a high level of therapeutic support without the same level of residential structure as our residential treatment program.
For women with PTSD, PHP can provide continued therapeutic support as they strengthen coping skills, practice emotional regulation, and apply what they have learned in treatment to everyday situations. Treatment may include individual therapy, group therapy, trauma-focused interventions, wellness activities, and other services based on each woman’s individualized treatment plan.
Our Florida Keys setting provides women with an opportunity to continue focusing on recovery in a supportive environment while building the skills and confidence needed for life beyond treatment.
At Kinder in the Keys, each day provides structure while allowing treatment to remain individualized to each woman’s clinical needs and treatment goals. Women participate in a combination of therapeutic programming, wellness activities, and opportunities for reflection and connection throughout the day.
For women receiving PTSD treatment, that structure can be especially important. Consistent routines and therapeutic support provide opportunities to develop coping skills, regulate emotions, address trauma-related patterns, and practice healthier responses in a supportive environment.
Treatment extends beyond the therapy room. Our Florida Keys setting allows us to incorporate movement, mindfulness, outdoor activities, and other wellness experiences as part of a whole-person approach to mental health treatment.
PTSD recovery does not end when residential treatment is complete. An important part of treatment at Kinder in the Keys is helping women develop the insight, coping skills, and practical strategies they can continue using in everyday life.
Throughout treatment, women have opportunities to better understand their PTSD symptoms, recognize patterns and triggers, strengthen emotional regulation skills, and practice healthier ways of responding to stress. When clinically appropriate, treatment may also include medication management and education that supports a better understanding of mental health and recovery.
As discharge approaches, the treatment team works with each woman to support continuity of care and help prepare her for the next stage of treatment and recovery.
Insurance benefits may help cover the cost of residential PTSD treatment. Our admissions team can verify your benefits and help you understand the coverage available under your individual insurance plan.

Not every woman with PTSD needs residential treatment. However, when PTSD symptoms significantly interfere with daily functioning, relationships, emotional stability, or the ability to make progress in outpatient treatment, a higher level of care may be appropriate.
At Kinder in the Keys, our women-only residential program provides a structured, supportive environment where women can step away from everyday stressors and focus on recovery.
You may be a good candidate for residential treatment if:
Your PTSD symptoms are interfering with your ability to function in everyday life.
You continue to struggle despite outpatient therapy or other treatment.
PTSD is affecting your relationships, work, sleep, emotional regulation, or sense of safety.
You are experiencing co-occurring concerns such as depression or anxiety.
You would benefit from a structured therapeutic environment with support from mental health professionals.
Residential PTSD treatment provides the time, structure, clinical support, and therapeutic environment needed to address PTSD symptoms and the traumatic experiences underlying them. Treatment is individualized based on each woman’s history, symptoms, needs, and goals.
Not every traumatic experience results in PTSD. Our trauma-focused treatment helps women understand how past experiences may continue to affect emotions, relationships, behaviors, and physical responses while developing healthier patterns for moving forward.
Depression can affect every part of a woman’s life, including sleep, energy, relationships, motivation, and daily functioning. Our residential program provides individualized treatment in a structured and supportive environment.
When anxiety becomes persistent or overwhelming, it can interfere with relationships, work, sleep, and everyday life. Our women-only residential program helps women understand anxiety patterns, build effective coping skills, and address factors contributing to ongoing symptoms.
PTSD can affect far more than memories of what happened. It can change how you feel, think, sleep, relate to others, and experience safety in everyday life. When those symptoms continue to interfere with your ability to move forward, residential treatment can provide the time, structure, and clinical support needed to focus fully on recovery.
At Kinder in the Keys, women receive individualized treatment in a supportive residential environment in the Florida Keys. Our approach addresses PTSD symptoms while also helping women understand and process the experiences and patterns that continue to affect their emotional and physical well-being.
If you or a woman you care about is struggling with PTSD, our admissions team can help you determine whether residential treatment may be an appropriate next step.
Kinder in the Keys provides women-only residential PTSD treatment in the Florida Keys. Our individualized, trauma-informed approach combines evidence-based therapies with supportive wellness practices in a structured residential environment designed specifically for adult women with PTSD.
Length of stay varies based on each woman’s individual clinical needs, symptoms, treatment goals, and progress. Some women may benefit from approximately 30 days of residential treatment, while others may require a longer stay. Our clinical team continually evaluates each woman’s progress and treatment needs to help determine the appropriate length of care.
Outpatient therapy can be very effective, but it may not provide enough structure or support for every woman with PTSD. Residential treatment provides a structured therapeutic environment where women can step away from everyday stressors and focus more intensively on treatment and recovery. It may be appropriate when PTSD symptoms significantly interfere with daily functioning or when outpatient treatment has not provided the level of support needed. The appropriate level of care depends on each woman’s symptoms, safety, functioning, and individual clinical needs.
Medication may be included as part of PTSD treatment when clinically appropriate. At Kinder in the Keys, psychiatric providers assess each woman’s symptoms, medical history, current medications, and individual treatment needs. When medication is indicated, it may be used alongside psychotherapy and other therapeutic approaches as part of an individualized treatment plan.
