Recognized Mental Health Expert

Dr. Laura Tanzini is a nationally recognized mental health expert, doctoral-level public health professional, and licensed clinician with more than two decades of experience treating complex psychological conditions, trauma, and women’s mental health. She is the Founder and CEO of Kinder in the Keys, a premier residential mental health treatment center designed exclusively for women seeking deep, lasting healing.

Doctorate in Public Health

Dr. Tanzini holds a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) with a specialization in Prevention and Lifestyle Medicine from Loma Linda University, where her doctoral research focused on the relationship between forgiveness, trauma, and life satisfaction. Her academic foundation also includes a Master’s degree in Psychology with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with an emphasis in human functioning. This rare combination of clinical psychology, medical science, and public health informs her integrative approach to treatment.

Experienced With The Full Spectrum of Care

Throughout her career, Dr. Tanzini has worked across the full spectrum of care, from academic institutions to frontline crisis intervention and private clinical practice. She has served as an adjunct professor at multiple universities, teaching subjects including psychopharmacology, human development, abnormal psychology, and substance use disorders, while also mentoring graduate-level clinicians and advising dissertations.

Her clinical expertise is rooted in real-world, high-acuity environments. She provided counseling and crisis intervention for active-duty military personnel and their families through the MFLC program, working across U.S. and international bases to assess PTSD, identify suicidal risk, and lead critical incident debriefings. Her work in these settings earned recognition from military leadership, including being formally honored by a U.S. European Command.

Prior to founding Kinder in the Keys, Dr. Tanzini owned and operated a full-service counseling and treatment center for over a decade, delivering RTC, PHP, IOP, outpatient, and intensive trauma programs. She specialized in treating individuals with complex trauma histories, including survivors of sexual abuse, relationship trauma, eating disorders, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Her approach integrates evidence-based psychotherapy with lifestyle medicine, addressing nutrition, exercise, sleep, and long-term behavioral change as essential components of recovery.

Kinder In The Keys

At Kinder in the Keys, Dr. Tanzini has built a nationally respected treatment program focused exclusively on women’s mental health. Under her leadership, the center has grown from a startup to a multi-million-dollar organization with Joint Commission accreditation, providing residential and partial hospitalization care for conditions including trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, narcissistic abuse recovery, and eating disorders.

Dr. Tanzini is also a published researcher and thought leader, with academic work exploring trauma, forgiveness, and psychological well-being. Her publication on life satisfaction following childhood sexual abuse has contributed to the broader understanding of long-term recovery outcomes. She has delivered numerous lectures and presentations on topics including anxiety, depression, nutrition, chronic disease, and the physiological impact of mental health conditions.
