Animal Assisted Therapy Partner – Pawsitive Beginnings

During the summer of 2021, Kinder in the Keys and Pawsitive Beginnings partnered to bring the
women of Kinder a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet survivors of a different species.

Pawsitive Beginnings is a non-profit fox sanctuary located in Key Largo, Florida. All of the foxes
that reside there were captive-bred in the United States on fur farms where they were born to be
killed for fashion items. Many do not realize that farming animals for their fur is still an industry
that is very much alive and well in the United States.

Partnering with Kinder in the Keys to share the stories of survival from the fox’s perspective has
proven to be a healing experience for the women. Realizing that these animals, which were
born into a life of suffering and trauma, once rescued, have overcome their past and now live a
life that they never knew was possible, has given hope to the women that they too, can do the
same. Trauma knows no boundaries when it comes to species. Every sentient being on the
planet is susceptible to being exposed to trauma in various forms.

Pawsitive Beginnings encourages the foxes to be exactly who they want to be and provides the
enrichment, diet and space to allow them to thrive. Kinder in the Keys does the exact same
thing for the women that walk through their doors.
